During the two days, the scientists will learn about each other’s projects and help advance CCS research.

CLIMIT provides the knowledge requested by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy
Klaus Schöffel, Vice-President Technology at Gassnova and head of the CLIMIT secretariat says: - Extensive CCS research is necessary before constructing thousands of carbon capture facilities. We see that at CLIMIT Days, the various research groups start networking and challenging each other. We become stronger by joining forces, and in this aspect, CLIMIT plays an important national role.

Norway takes the lead in studies of possible environmental effects of amine emissions
The emission of amines from carbon capture plants has been and still is dealt with by several CLIMIT projects. The issue recently received attention in connection with the presentation of Norway's National Budget for 2011, which mentioned new challenges in connection with emissions from the CO2 capture plant at Mongstad.

Projects within the CLIMIT portfolio have, e.g., studied the formation of new compounds upon the emission of amines to the atmosphere. However, these are complex processes, and CLIMIT's strategy is to gain a thorough understanding of the most commonly used amine. The CLIMIT Days have shown us new and interesting results on the formation and lifetime of compounds associated with carbon capture, says Mr. Schöffel.
